  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • ⅓ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 teaspoons paprika (sweet or smoked)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 ½ teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (for sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic (minced, for sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons cucumber (grated, for sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin (for sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (for sauce)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (for sauce)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (for sauce)
  • ⅛ teaspoon red pepper flakes (for sauce)
  • Pitas (to serve)
  • Lettuce (to serve)
  • Red onion (to serve)
  • Cucumbers (to serve)
  • Tomatoes (to serve)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together Greek yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, paprika, cumin, black pepper, salt, turmeric, cinnamon, and red pepper flakes.
  2. Place chicken thighs in a Ziploc bag with the marinade and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Slice the onion and place it at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  4. Add marinated chicken on top of the onions and cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 4-6 hours until tender.
  5. Shred the chicken with two forks and mix it with juices before serving.
